The Science Marketer is a consultancy that helps science companies make smarter marketing decisions—without the guesswork.

Whether you're launching your first campaigns, struggling to connect with your audience, or just unsure what’s working, I’ll help you cut through the noise and focus on what really moves the needle.

Through strategy workshops, marketing audits, and hands-on guidance, I bring clarity to your positioning, messaging, and execution.

Who am I?

👋 Hey, I'm Joachim Eeckhout

In 2014, I founded Labiotech.eu to make the European biotech industry easier to understand—and grew it into one of the most-read digital media platforms in the field, with over 150,000 monthly readers.

Along the way, I learned what it takes to build trust, create content that resonates, and grow a loyal audience. More importantly, I learned how to turn smart communication into real business results.

Now, I help science companies do the same through strategic audits, positioning work, and practical marketing advice tailored to their stage and goals. When you work with me, you don’t just get ideas, you get a clear direction and a partner to help you follow through.

What kind of work do I focus on?

I help life science and deep tech companies improve their marketing through clear strategy, sharp positioning, and actionable insights. My work is ideal for companies that want clarity, direction, and a marketing setup that actually supports their business goals.

Here’s what I can help you with:

  • Marketing audits – a full review of your current marketing efforts to spot what’s effective, what’s missing, and where you’re wasting time or budget
  • Positioning workshops – get clarity on what makes you different and how to say it in a way that resonates with your audience
  • Go-to-market strategy – define your target segments, craft your value proposition, and map out a plan to reach your goals
  • Messaging frameworks – develop clear, consistent messaging that your team can use across your website, pitch decks, and content
  • Content strategy – plan the right topics, formats, and distribution channels to support your sales or funding efforts
  • Coaching – 1:1 support for founders or marketers who need a sparring partner to think through marketing decisions

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Still not convinced? Let's answer some burning questions:

Do I have a scientific background?

Absolutely! I hold a Master's degree in Biotechnology Engineering from SupBiotech in Paris. In addition, I worked in both private and academic laboratories, gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Here's a glimpse into my academic and professional journey:

  • In the biotech startup DaVolterra, I worked on a new therapy against antibiotic resistance.
  • As a participant in the iGEM synthetic biology competition in 2012, I was part of the team that received the "Best Model and Best Human Practice" award for our work on Xenopus.
  • I worked on Salmonella enterica in the Microbiology department of the University of Montreal in Canada.

While I enjoyed my time in the lab, I decided not to pursue a Ph.D. Instead, I ventured straight into the world of entrepreneurship and started my first company in 2014.

What's my experience in digital marketing?

Running a digital media platform like Labiotech.eu has many similarities to running a digital marketing agency, but with the added benefits of press-related perks.

What has been particularly rewarding about this experience is the opportunity to delve into various marketing skills and strategies to boost the growth of the business. From SEO and lead generation to growth hacking and community management, we have tested many marketing techniques to disseminate our content effectively.

Furthermore, Labiotech.eu has collaborated with advertisers who, much like clients of a marketing agency, sought assistance with their online marketing efforts. Over the course of a decade, I have been involved in the creation and execution of more than 500 campaigns, working with prestigious clients, including six of the top ten CRO/CDMO companies.

Where am I based, and where do I come from?

I am currently based in the Rhine-Ruhr region, in the north-western part of Germany. It's close to big cities such as Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, and Essen.

While Germany has become my adoptive country, I originally come from France. I grew up in picturesque valleys of the Champagne region. After spending five years in Paris for my studies, I moved to Berlin in 2014 to start my entrepreneurship journey and lived there for nine years.
